This is the last piece built in the Aztec Style Series. Like the Armoire, the drawer fronts were carved from a monolithic slab of wood, then split into the individual components. also like the Armoire, there is no hardware. All of the drawers are touch activated. as you can see in the image below, some of the drawers required special details to accommodate the intricate design.
The top of this piece, as well as the top of the Armoire, was made from solid, heavily figured tiger maple. The image to the right shows a row of recessed walnut dome top buttons, a large round walnut inlay, and some of the many thousands of lines carved into these pieces.
The final image below illustrates the look the client was looking for very well. It was achieved with a Jacobean stain that was slopped on then wiped off, a chestnut main stain, and several colors of toner in the clear coats. The depth looks pretty stunning in real-life.
